Now Open: Sliderz Restaurant in North Miami

Mmmm! This burger place (@Sliderzrest) is revolutionizing the slider.

A new chain in the burger business is setting out to prove bigger isn't better.

Sliderz opens its doors to the public on Friday, Oct. 23 in North Miami (1817 NE 123rd St, North Miami). It is the first of seven locations set to open in South Florida this year, including Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs and Plantation.

It's a fast casual restaurant with an intimate setting, adorned with pops of orange and neon signage. The clean, white counters hold iPads to view orders, and the adjacent built-in cooler keeps the mostly local craft beers cold.

One look at the over-sized, computerized menus, and a slight panic of overwhelming options emerges. These are not typical sliders. Choose between grilled Mahi Mahi ($4), spicy Mahi Mahi ($4.25) or blue crab meat ($6). Or, try Chicken Parmesan ($4), a chili-cheese dog ($3.25) and pulled pork ($3.50). Of course there's also The Traditional ($3), or a cheeseburger ($3.25) option.

"Even though we're burgers and fried chicken," co-owner Buzzy Sklar explained in his bright-orange Sliderz-themed Converse. "We're certified Angus beef, hormone and antibiotic free. Our fish are line-caught and our chicken is free-range."

Sklar says he wanted to confidently back the food he serves, so he went to the farms and ranches in northern Florida to ensure he was getting the best quality. He tries to keep ingredients as locally sourced as possible, even when it comes to the beer.

"The bulk of our beers are local," Sklar continued. "We do a couple nationals, but no matter what market we're in, we always want to have probably 50 percent of our beer menu, local craft." Miami Brewing Co. consumes the coolers here, offering an IPA, a brown ale and a pale ale, each $6.

Sliderz opens 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at 1817 N.E. 123rd St., in North Miami. Call 786-703-7493 or go to Sliderz.com.
