Dale Prescott and Franchesca Peters are bringing a touch of their homeland, Trinidad and Tobago, to the former home of Pronto Café by the Sea.

“Taking someone island-hopping through the Caribbean without the airfare was always a dream of mine,” Prescott says. “Whenever someone thinks of Caribbean food, they always think of jerk chicken served with rice and beans, but the Caribbean has so much more to offer. The spices of Grenada, the coconut curry of Tobago, the seafood of Barbados are only known to the few who can afford to visit the Caribbean.”

Caribbean flavors are fused into pizzas ($11.95-$16.25) and pastas, such as curried fish ravioli ($18.50) and seafood coconut curry with yucca gnocchi, a recipe of Peters’s father ($13.50). Other signatures include Jamaican pepper shrimp ($11.50), curried spice-crusted rack of lamb ($21.95), red snapper souscaille ($21.95), coffee-rubbed skirt steak ($22.75) and Spice of Life rum cake ($8.25).

Sunday brunch and daily lunch and dinner are served, except on Mondays, amid Caribbean paintings, a terrazzo floor and an oversized vintage Caribbean map on a brick wall.

Musicians perform nightly on the front patio with bright-red chairs with an emphasis on steel drums, soft reggae and calypso music.
