Painfully in touch with the reality of the newspaper business, former Hartford Advocate writer Jon Campbell has designed a beer for the packs of laid-off newsroom workers lurking in America's saddest corners.
A post on the Advocate suggests Campbell's Unemployed Reporter Porter is not yet available for sale, but it's pictured bottled and ready to distribute.
The label claims the beer's roasted malts "are as dark and bitter as the future of American journalism," and boasts "a high alcohol content designed to numb the pain of a slow, inexorable march toward obsolescence."
Oh, Jon Campbell. Your dark humor resounds with legions of writers severed from their professional matrix. But please don't take offense when I decline a taste. I'm not ready for that march into obsolescence.
