Keep an eye on VooDoo BBQ & Grill. the rapidly expanding barbecue franchise already open in Pembroke Pines and Kendall. There will eventually be 26 locations across the state.
I happened into the Pines location last weekend for quick lunch and was mighty impressed. My colleague, Danny Sanchez, reviewed VooDoo in February. You can read his review here.
While I didn't have time for ribs, we did order both a signature pulled pork sandwich ($4.99 small/$6.49 large). The tender pulled pork, which we ordered on a soft wheat bun, was tender and moist. And while many pulled pork sandwiches come with too much sauce, I was delighted that this one is served sauce-less. There are three squeeze bottles of sauce at each table: tangy, spicy and mojo. I loved the spicy.
We ordered a Fried shrimp poboy ($7.49) on french bread and it came dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickle and just the right amount of remoulade. It might not have been totally New Orleans authentic, but it hit the spot.
While you order from a counter, food is delivered to your table by a friendly staff member. I was also impressed with sides of mac and cheese and rattlesnake beans, VooDoo's version of baked beans.
Look for VooDoo to open soon in Cypress Creek, Hollywood and Boca.
