Hot plates: Upcoming food and dining events in South Florida

Want to know about the latest restaurant opening, a fine wine dinner, a charity food event or an eatery offering a special promotion? Welcome to Hot Plates, a weekly listing of upcoming food events in South Florida. It is a way for organized foodies to plan their calendars, and a way for me to clean my inbox of all the dining happenings that seem to fall through the cracks.

Salud! Jackson Hall, a health-minded food court in Miami’s Jackson Medical District from the founder of the Wynwood Yard, held a grand-opening celebration on Tuesday, April 17. Located on the second floor of the Civica Center, 1050 NW 14th St., it is being billed as the first wellness-focused food hall in a public health space. Six eateries will debut, including second locations of Della Bowls and Charcoal, which were launched by Della Heiman at Wynwood Yard. Other stalls include Levante, a Middle Eastern eatery serving kebabs, shawarma and mezze; Little Island, featuring Hawaiian poke bowls; Leo & Bloom Delicatessen, a modern deli with lighter fare; and Petit Marché, an artisanal market with grab-and-go items.

The food hall will also feature Radiate Apothecary + Bar, with juices, smoothies, elixirs and kombucha. The owners plan to convert the third floor into a hydroponic farm, with a goal of growing 1,000 pounds of greens, herbs and vegetables weekly.

Tacos in Trumplandia: Coyo Taco, a casual Mexican eatery that started in artsy Wynwood, opened its newest location this week on the tony island of Palm Beach, at Royal Poinciana Plaza, 340 Royal Poinciana Way.

Subs in Sailboat Bend: Subs and Suds, a sandwich and beer eatery from Memphis Garrett (Poke House), opened this week in the Sailboat Beand/Riverside Park neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, at 601 SW 12th Ave.

Serfer and Turf: Byblos, 1545 Collins Ave., in Miami Beach, will hold a special chef’s dinner featuring Danny Serfer (Blue Collar, Mignonette) from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 18. Tickets cost $70 per person, plus tax, tip and optional $35 wine supplement.

Sip and slurp: The Apothecary, 330 SW Second St., in Fort Lauderdale, will host an oysters-and-whiskey event from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, April 19. Tickets cost $40 and include several varieties of oysters and Jura Scotch Whisky.

Sake celebration: Etaru Hallandale, 111 S Surf Rd., Hallandale, will stage a special Seven Days of Sake promotion April 19-25, featuring a seasonal, four-course tasting menu and dessert for $75, plus tax and tip, that will be paired with distinct sakes. In addition, the bar has created a new sakatini for the week.

Happy anniversary:Matchbox Vintage Pizza Bistro at Sawgrass Mills, 1860 Sawgrass Mills Circle, in Sunrise, celebrates its first anniversary with special menu items, including shrimp pizza, through April 22. Diners who mention the anniversary will receive a free dessert. In addition, the restaurant will donate $1 from every pizza sold this month to Autism Speaks, a nonprofit advocacy group, to mark Autism Awareness Month.

Las Olas Wine and Food Festival: More than 50 South Florida restaurants and dozens of wineries from around the world will be offering sips and bites at the 23rd annual Las Olas Wine and Food Festival in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, April 20. Tickets cost $150. The event will take place 7-10:30 p.m. on a five-block stretch of East Las Olas Boulevard (600-1000 block).

Chef’s dinner in Boca: Mobu Fusion Cafe, 1159 S. Federal Highway, in Boca Raton, a new restaurant from chef-owner Monique Buchbinder, will hold a $95 special tasting dinner at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20.

April 27: Taste of the Nation to benefit No Kid Hungry, Ice Palace Film Studios, 59 NW 14th St., Miami, tickets $150 and up, age 21 and older.

April 27-29: Pompano Beach Seafood Festival, Pompano Pier/Atlantic Avenue and A1A, three-day passes cost $30.

May 3: Delish to benefit Arc Broward Culinary Program, the Gallery of Amazing Things, 481 S. Federal Highway, Dania Beach. Tickets cost $150 and up.

May 11: Orange Bowl Food and Wine Celebration, Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $95 and up.

June 2: Taste of Recovery to benefit Crossroads Club for addiction recovery, hosted by Louie Bossi, Old School Square, Delray Beach. Tickets cost $40.
