Welcome to the Eat Beat Newsletter. I present a slimmed-down edition this week, but plenty of opportunity for gorging awaits at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival (through Sunday), and a 10th anniversary party and concert for Rocco's Tacos on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach on Saturday. Enjoy.
(Frank and Dino's to hold Stoneman Douglas fundraiser.)
Helping Parkland: In the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, some local restaurants are eager to help. Restaurateur and thoroughbred trainer Carlo Vaccarezza, whose sons Nick and Mike attend Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, will hold a fundraiser for victims' families 2-9 p.m. Sunday at his Frank and Dino's, 39 SE First Ave., Boca Raton. Contributions can also be made by calling 561-218-4636. Nick, 18, a senior, and Mike, 16, a sophomore, were in separate buildings when the shootings occurred and were able to escape without injury ... Falafel Bistro and Wine Bar, 5677 Coral Ridge Dr., Coral Springs, will hold a fundraiser on Monday (Feb. 26), with food served by MSD alumni and all proceeds going to a victims fund ... All 34 Duffy's Sports Grill locations in Florida will collect donations on Sunday (Feb. 25), and the chain says it will match all contributions dollar for dollar. Proceeds will go to the Stoneman Douglas Victims Fund set up by the Broward Education Foundation, according to the restaurant.
