In honor of National Burger Month and National Hamburger Day on May 28, we offer a two-for-one special: dueling top 10 lists from experts who know how to chow down. We asked Sef Gonzalez, South Florida's self-proclaimed "Burger Beast" and blogger, eater and burger museum creator and curator extraordinaire, to serve up a list of his Top 10 burgers in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
And because it is no fun to eat alone, SouthFlorida.com dining critic Mike Mayo joins the patty party by dishing out his 10 favorite burgers in South Florida.
Gonzalez will mark the 10th anniversary of his Burger Beast blog later this year, and on June 1 he will unveil the revamped and expanded Burger Museum by Burger Beast at Magic City Casino, 450 NW 37th Ave., in Miami. The renovated museum will feature more fast-food memorabilia and a new Wall's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream shop (unfortunately, logistics preclude the cooking or serving of burgers in the museum). The museum will be open Thursday-Monday from noon until 5 p.m., and Wall's Ice Cream will be open daily from noon to 10 p.m. (until 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday).
As with any food list, the conclusions are highly subjective and open to debate. Gonzalez and Mayo agree on some picks and diverge on others, but both have no beef on this point: It has never been a better time to be a burger lover in South Florida. Get clicking, and happy eating!
