Lush Out: A trip to the motherland

For a short week, I'll leave our sunny SoFla shores for the snow and rocks of Colorado, where I'll cruise through brewpubs and breweries galore. Colorado is considered the motherland of American craft beer, but even big-name bottles such as Coors are headquartered there.

Until I return, here are some places where you can get your brew on, while I rub elbows with the likes of Left Hand and Wynkoop.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, it's Nectar Ales night at World of Beer Coconut Creek. Head there to get a taste of four of the brewery's products for the first time at the WOB location. Selections include the Hemp Ale (5.7 percent ABV brown ale) and the Black Xantus (11 percent ABV Russian imperial stout).

Friday, Nov. 30, Whole Foods Coral Springs will host musicians from the South Florida Blues Society to entertain customers who come in to try select Magic Hat and New Planet beers. The Blues and Brews event goes on from 7 to 9 p.m., when some beers will cost $1.49 and some wines by the glass will go for $4.99.

Saturday, Dec. 1, the Mack House will be home to a meet-and-greet with Native Brewing's Adam Fine from 8 to 10 p.m. The founder of the South Florida-based brewing company will spew knowledge about his brand while guests sample brews and nibble on cheese. Buy a pint and keep the commemorative Native glass.
