Want to bet on Kim Rothstein's prison term?

In the saga of Fort Lauderdale's infamous Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein and his wife, Kim, don't count author Chuck Malkus as the former power couple's biggest fan.

"People are fed up with fraudulent acts and a message needs to be sent. It's time to clean up any fraud that's taking place in our back yards," says Malkus, who says he witnessed Rothstein flaunting exotic cars as he swindled investors out of millions in the biggest case of financial fraud in South Florida's history.

Malkus will sign copies of his biography, "The Ultimate Ponzi: The Scott Rothstein Story," at Cinema Paradiso on Tuesday night. He will use the event to capitalize on another recent headline: Kim Rothstein pleading guilty in February to conspiracy to hide and fence more than $1 million in jewelry from federal authorities.

Malkus is organizing a "sentencing pool" for Rothstein's 39-year-old "trophy wife" (Malkus' words), where guests in exchange for prizes, can guess how long Kim will spend in prison. (Rothstein faces up to five years in prison.)

"Have I accepted the role of someone making sure Kim gets the punishment she deserves? I have," Malkus says.

Prizes, which were donated to Malkus for the occasion, includes a two-night stay at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, a 32-inch flatscreen TV and a two-night stay at the Beachcomber Resort in Pompano Beach.

Chuck Malkus' book-signing is 6 p.m. Tuesday at Cinema Paradiso, 503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale. $5, includes appetizers from Royal Pig Pub. 954-760-9898 or
