Lauderhill will resemble "a galaxy far, far away" when Tate's Comics celebrates the unofficial "Star Wars" holiday May the Fourth.

On May 4, Star Wars fans traditionally wish people, "May the Fourth be with you," mocking the famous phrase from the franchise, "May the Force be with you."

"On May the Fourth, you always find more 'Star Wars' fans that you didn't know were 'Star Wars' fans," says JoAnn Richards, manager at Tate's.

The store will offer a 10 percent discount on all "Star Wars" products. The event will also feature activities such as a spaceship board game and encounters with Darth Vader and other characters from the movies. Participants can choose to join Jedis or the dark side before making their own light sabers from pool noodles, duct tape and electrical tape.

"It's not always an easy thing to find which side you're on," Richards says. "And then, you want to find someone to duel."

This will be the fourth time Tate's has hosted the event. Richards expects to see many people dressed as the characters. The store's owner, Tate Ottati, will come as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"People love all the characters, from the bad guys to the good guys," Ottati says. "It's just an all-around myth for the modern day."

The event will begin noon Sunday, May 4, at Tate's Comics, 4566 N. University Drive, in Lauderhill. Admission is free. Call 954-748-0181 or go to TatesComics.com.
