On tap: Miami Beer Festival takes over

Beer lovers, local and national breweries, and food trucks will gather in an unusual place this weekend: in the middle of a football field.

The second Miami Beer Festival will take over Sun Life Stadium on Saturday.

"Miami is still kind of in its infancy when it comes to the beer scene," said Dan Silberstein, 36, creator of the festival. "I've done beer festivals in other cities -- like New York, Chicago, Baltimore -- and I really wanted to do something in Miami."

More than 50 breweries are bringing their creations to the festival, including locals Lauder Ale, Opus Ales, Miami Brewing Co., 3 Sons Brewing Co., Funky Buddha and Wynwood Brewing Company.

"The event grew substantially from last year in terms of local breweries," Silberstein said. "It kind of reflects that the beer scene has really expanded in just one year."

Besides trying plenty of beer of different flavors, attendees can eat from local food trucks – B&B Joint, Ms. Cheezious, Che Grill, Top Fries or Health Nut on Wheels.

But for Silberstein, organizing a beer festival in Florida also meant taking advantage of perfect weather.

"Florida is unique in the sense that the weather is actually decent in January and February," he said. "So it was an opportunity to do something earlier in the year."

Tickets for the festival are on sale at VIP entrance, starting at 1 p.m., is $50, and general admission, starting at 2 p.m., is $40. The tickets include tasting for all 55 breweries, but it doesn't include food. The festival runs until 5 p.m., @babicorb or 954-356-4710
