Beach Zombie Rampage Pub Crawl in Lake Worth

You may think the mumbling figures staggering downtown Lake Worth should be a normal occurrence for a Friday night, but tonight will be special.

These will be zombie drunken revelers, liable to devour brains in between sips of frothy craft beer, who will be partaking in the Beach Zombie Rampage Pub Crawl to benefit water safety and swim programs at the recently re-opened Lake Worth Municipal Pool.

All liquored up and no way to flaunt your zombie pride? Professional makeup artists will be on hand at South Shores Tavern (502 Lucerne Ave.) to morph you into the living dead before turning you loose. A professional crew will shoot the undead masses (with digital cameras) for a forthcoming low-budget film titled “Beach Zombie Rampage: Kickin’ It in the LDUB,” to be entered for contention in September’s 2013 LDUB Film Festival at Lake Worth Playhouse.

"It will be a campy, really, really low-budget zombie movie," says Keiran O'Shay, the film's director and president of the Friends of Lake Worth Pool. "The movie will be set in Lake Worth and it's going to be a parody about all the potholes in Lake Worth and all the nudity in zombie movies. Like, why am I going take my shirt off if all a zombie has to do to infect is scratch my arm? I'm going to dress up like an eskimo!"

The event, sponsored by the Downtown Cultural Alliance and the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, begins at 7 p.m. and will depart from South Shores Tavern between 7:45 and 8 p.m. Pubs on the zombie crawl include Brogues Down Under (621 Lake Ave.), Rudy’s Standup Saloon (9 N. J. St.), Little Munich (806 Lake Ave.), The Cottage (522 Lucerne Ave.), Havana Hideout (509 Lake Ave.), Dave’s Last Resort and Raw Bar (632 Lake Ave.), Speakeasy Lounge (129 N. Federal Highway) and Igot's Martiki Bar (702 Lake Ave.).

Prizes will be awarded for Best Zombie Costume, Most Spirited Zombie and Worst Zombie Ever, with ample time to strike a “Thriller” pose during planned “incidents” on the crawl.
