The plot of the family-friendly Marvel Universe Live!, appearing Nov. 28-30 at AmericanAirlines Arena, is ripped straight from comic-book lore: Thor, the god of thunder, must scour the planet for three parts of a Cosmic Cube with the aid of Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk and the Avengers.
There are villains: Green Goblin swoops in on his floating metal craft, while Spider-Man nemeses Sinister Six and Black Cat join in to terrorize. There are stunts: pyrotechnic explosions, choreographed martial-arts fights, aerial acrobatics on wires from the Falcon, projectiles (Captain America's shield pelts a foe or two). There are cars: motorcycles and other vehicles roar and zip around the arena.
If Marvel Universe Live! sounds like a medley of the Ringling Bros. circus and a Monster Truck Jam, only with dudes in skintight superhero suits, that's because all three of these live-action shows are produced by the Ellenton, Fla.-based Feld Entertainment. The show arrives on the heels of Marvel's October announcement that at least 10 new superhero films will compete for moviegoers' attention over the next decade.
The on-tour production will do seven performances at the AmericanAirlines Arena, with showtimes at 7 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Marvel Universe Live! will run Friday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Nov. 30, at AmericanAirlines Arena, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., in Miami. Tickets cost $20-$120. Call 800-745-3000 or go to Ticketmaster.com.
