Top Hat Deli
415 NE Third St., Fort Lauderdale, 954-900-3896, TopHatfFl.com
From the owners of Red Cow, Foxy Brown, Coconuts and G&B Oyster Bar comes this New York-style deli with a modern spin in Fat Village, resurrecting a longtime abandoned building.
"Top Hat is dedicated to my father, my grandfather and the values they instilled in me," says co-owner Elliot Wolf, whose grandfather emigrated from Germany with a top hat as a sole possession and launched a food distribution business.
Daily breakfast and lunch is a mix of classics, such as matzo ball soup ($8), Reuben and Rachel sandwiches (both $14) and egg creams ($6), and twists, such as bacon and egg ramen ($12), the Fast-Break Sandwich ($10), Top Hat pastrami burger ($14) and pizza bagels ($9 or $11 with salami).
Kick off with cocktails ($14) such as Vanilla Old Fashion or end with dessert libations such as Neo Creamsicle with rum.
Black-and-white photos of Wolf's grandfather, father and children complement the sleek interior with geometric designs of gray, white and black with playful light fixtures. A covered patio will open this fall.
