WZZR (94.3-FM)

The slogan of this anything-goes, listener-oriented station is "Music radio sucks." WZZR could easily amend that statement to read, "Talk radio sucks, too," as the station's competition throughout the FM and AM dials leaves much to be desired by people not enamored with Neil Rogers' fascinating dissections of his bodily functions, Hank Goldberg's enlightening opinions on horseracing and Keanu Reeves movies, or the enthralling Miami-Dade County School Board meetings broadcast on WLRN. While you may hear somebody talking about The Matrix on WZZR -- and you're more than certain to encounter a fart joke or two here -- blame the listeners. From 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays, the station keeps its phone lines open to callers wishing to discuss whatever is on their minds. Sports, politics and world events are obvious topics, but so are threesomes, Desperate Housewives and drinking on the job. "It is our contention that the listeners are far more interesting than anything we could come up with," says Jason Carr, an on-air personality and producer. And if that includes a discussion about the bacon double cheeseburger Neil Rogers had for lunch yesterday, so be it.
