Alligator Alley
1321 E. Commercial Blvd., Oakland Park, 954/771-2220, www.alligatoralleyflorida.com
Carl "Kilmo" Pacillo's Alligator Alley offers not only an eclectic roster of roots and alternative music and a fine selection of locally brewed suds but also the best grub to chew on while filling your ears and wrecking your liver. Louisiana provides inspiration for Chef Iggy's cuisine, which includes a variety of well-stuffed po' boys and barbecue sandwiches. A rich blend of sausage, chicken, shrimp and beans ladled over rice, the Alley's gumbo earned top honors three years in a row at Fort Lauderdale's Cajun-Zydeco Crawfish Festival. Of course, the Alley's namesake also makes its presence felt, as it crops up in everything from gator bites to po' boys. We're not the only ones who think Kilmo's kitchen is top-notch: Last summer, the Food Network's BBQ With Bobby Flay aired a segment spotlighting the Alley's signature gator ribs.
