Sage French-American Café
2378 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, 954/565-2299, www.sagecafe.net

Charming and intimate, Sage has consistently provided South Floridians with fine country-French cuisine. From fresh salads and appetizers such as a classic three-onion soup, to decadent desserts such as apple or chocolate crepes and crème brûlée, the food is prepared with evident care. Entrées reflect the hearty cooking of the French countryside, with dishes such as crisp roasted duck with a honey-raspberry sauce; cassoulet l'Armagnac, which alternates layers of duck and garlic sausage with white haricot beans; and steak Maurice, a grilled rib-eye topped with asparagus, mushrooms, melted Brie and raspberry sauce. A variety of crepes, from Suzanne (chicken and mushrooms in a light cream sauce) to Angelique (shrimp and peppers in a Provençal sauce), also provide tempting choices. A nice selection of French and California wines is available by the glass or the bottle. Sage hosts complimentary winetastings from 5 to 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month, or come by 9 p.m. Wednesdays for the Moulin Rouge revue.
