We're still perplexed as to why Craig Minervini lost his sports-anchor job at WTVJ-TV (Channel 6) a few years ago, but at least the Florida Marlins and Florida Panthers had the wisdom to put his talent to work on their respective pregame shows. Minervini barely had time to know what hit him when the Marlins hired him to host Marlins on Deck four years ago. The Panthers followed suit a year later with Panthers Preview, giving him enough work to keep him in South Florida when he isn't working events elsewhere. Perhaps no local sportscaster has been as versatile as Minervini, who counts play-by-play gigs on Notre Dame football games, Miami Fusion soccer matches and even a national dance and cheerleader competition for CBS among his credits. Besides being able to switch easily among sports, he comes to the job with enough knowledge to appeal to the serious fan and a personable, well-humored demeanor that keeps casual viewers from changing the channel.
