Asia Samson wrote his first poem at the age of 5. Now 26, the slam poet and member of the Slanted Eye poetry group released his first chapbook, I Be Me, and first solo spoken-word album, Tell-a-Vision, this year. Originally from the Philippines, Asia challenges readers and audiences to see things from a different perspective. After graduating from Spanish River High School in Boca Raton in 1996, he dove into the slam-poetry scene, writing controversial pieces about Asian discrimination and stereotypes. Asia has a novel in the works and continues to work with teenagers, volunteering his time at area high schools to inspire a new generation to wake up and see the world without prejudice.
