George Roumain

Beach volleyball star George Roumain no longer lives in South Florida, but we'll claim him anyway because he still calls Parkland home in his biography on the American Volleyball Professionals Web site, www.avp.com. Now based in Calabasas, Calif., the 6-foot-7 Roumain surfed South Florida's beaches as a kid and didn't begin playing volleyball until he was a sophomore in high school. He proved to be a quick study, going on to become a three-time All-American at Pepperdine University and winning a spot on the 2000 U.S. Olympic team. He took his game to the beach full-time in 2004, finishing third with teammate Jason Ring in the AVP event played adjacent to the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Hotel on Fort Lauderdale beach. Roumain, 29, still surfs and says if he weren't playing volleyball, he'd be "co-starring with The Rock in some action movies."
