Hoping to see some really cool weather, now that fall is just about here?
Sorry, you'll likely have to wait until late October or early November, the National Weather Service said.
On average, West Palm Beach sees temperatures drop below 60 degrees on Nov. 3, Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 4 and Miami on Nov. 8.
“Those of us who are tired of the long humid South Florida summer still have a few weeks before the first significant cool-down takes place,” said meteorologist Robert Molleda.
Officially, fall arrives at 10:49 a.m. on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Molleda noted that Sept. 21 - that would be today - is the mean date for hurricane strikes in South Florida. Since the late 1800s, half of the hurricanes that directly struck this region hit before that date and half after.
"The beginning of the astronomical fall means that for Florida the hurricane season is still very much alive," he said.Copyright © 2015, South Florida
