Nice South Florida weather for St. Patrick's Day

Sun Sentinel

It's a good idea to keep a light jacket or sweater with you today.  We're lucky that on this St. Patrick's Day there's no severe weather around - but it will be on the cool side.

According to the National Weather Service, it will be mostly sunny Friday with a high in the low 70s.  Winds will be from the east at 6 to 14 mph with gusts up to 18 mph.

There is a moderate risk of rip currents at all South Florida beaches Friday.

The weekend forecast looks similar: Temps in the mid to high 70s and no real chance of rain.  By the way, Monday is the first day of spring.

Retired NWS meteorologist Jim Lushine has some insight on our dry weather: Despite the brief deluge Tuesday night, which included a tornado that tracked from Cooper City to Plantation, the overall dry pattern persists in South Florida.  The weekly drought monitor shows that the area from Jupiter to Belle Glade remains in a moderate drought. The remainder of the southeast Florida metro area is described as dryer than normal. There is nothing in sight that would change those conditions in the next week.
