Era ending as Keys RV park sold to resort developer

Snowbirds saddened as Keys RV park sold for upscale resort

A developer's plan to transform a 24-acre RV campground and marina on the Atlantic side of Marathon, 45 miles from Key West, has saddened the snowbirds who have been staying at the site for years, the Miami New Times is reporting.

Knight's Key RV Resort and marina is one of the last "old-school, unvarnished accommodations" in the Keys, the story said. The new project's controversial developer -- a Vietnam War-era hippie who converted to Buddhism in the 1990s -- plans a 199-room waterfront hotel with a lazy-river pool and landscaped central plaza.
