Outdoors calendar: Gov. Rick Scott extends red snapper season in the Gulf

Snapper extension: The recreational red snapper season in Gulf state waters will remain open for seven additional days this month, including Saturday and Sunday; Nov. 11 and 12; and Nov. 25, 26 and 27. Gov. Rick Scott asked the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to expand the season to help offset the economic effects of Hurricane Hermine, which hit Florida’s Gulf coast in early September.

Foundation banquet: Guy Harvey celebrates 30 years as a professional artist at the ninth annual Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation fundraising banquet. The event is 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale. Harvey will present highlights from his research expeditions over the past year as well as his thoughts on three decades as the world’s best-selling marine artist. The banquet features live music, Caribbean-inspired food and open bars, plus live and silent auctions with artwork, trips and unique gift items. DU dinner: The Fort Lauderdale chapter of Ducks Unlimited has its auction and banquet from 6-10 p.m. Wednesday at Hugh’s Culinary in Oakland Park. The country western hoedown-themed event features live and silent auctions, raffles, door prizes, an open bar and food that includes alligator, duck, venison and shrimp. Tickets are $95 per person or $150 per couple. Bass tournament: The Bass-N-Fools has its 37th annual Giblets and Gravy open team tournament Nov. 13 on Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston. Entry fee is $100 per two-angler team. Enter in advance at BJ’s Bait & Tackle in Plantation or call the tackle store at 954-475-0248.

Bass clinic: A bass fishing clinic for ages 12 and over is 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Weston Community Center at 20200 Saddle Club Road. Cost is $35. Call instructor Ron Gallo at 954-684-3636.

Free Fishing: Nov. 26 is a license-free saltwater fishing day in Florida, which means residents and visitors can fish without a state-required saltwater fishing license.
