Puppies rescued from hot car in Wellington mall parking lot

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue on Sunday rescued two puppies from a sweltering car, according to a news release.

The puppies were left without water in a black SUV in the Wellington Green Mall parking lot for more than 35 minutes, according to the release. A Good Samaritan told mall security that there were puppies that appeared to be in distress in the car.

Fire rescue personnel broke the windows and removed the puppies, according to the release. The outside temperature was about 88 degrees, and the temperature inside the SUV was measured at 123 degrees.

The owners, who were unidentified in the release, admitted to leaving the puppies in their vehicle while they went to a restaurant and shopping. Animal Care and Control responded to the scene and took possession of the puppies. The owners were charged with cruelty to animals, according to the release.
