Poison Control
Poisons are not just those substances under the sink with the skull-and-crossbones on the label. All kinds of products can be dangerous to kids. For instance, a large amount of mouthwash can kill a small child because of the high alcohol content.
- Accidents occur in even the most careful of families, and when they do, don't assume that forcing your child to throw up is the correct course of action. This could make the matter worse.
- You must call your doctor or the poison control center right away if you suspect poisoning. Do not give your child anything to eat or drink before calling the center.
- Do not wait until your child begins to look or feel sick before calling the center.
- Also, remember that poisoning does not occur only through swallowing. Poisons can also be inhaled, absorbed through the skin or exposed to the eyes.
