Miami mom’s ‘super bib’ helps lighten the load By Jennifer Anthony South Florida Sun-Sentinel
North Miami --When you saw your first sonogram image, could you have imagined that such a tiny being would need so much stuff -- or create mountains of laundry? It is some unknown Newton's law: for each stage of a child's life, there is an equal amount of stuff and mess. Susie Taylor, Miami resident and mother of two boys, was pondering this equation while attempting to feed her children on an airplane. We've all been there. Cramped quarters, plenty of distractions, fumbling for utensils -- it's an ear-popping challenge. Taylor emerged from the flight stained and determined. "I have a really messy child, and I was tired of the clothing changes, tired of the laundry," Taylor said. "He never wanted to wear a traditional bib; they were too uncomfortable and restraining." Thus, bibbitec was born. The "Multi-Tasking Super Bib" is a long, over-the-head bib that is made from a specially engineered material that is lightweight and soft. Taylor said bibbitec can be used for five years, a much longer shelf life than most baby products, taking a mom from the burp-cloth days all the way to that first kindergarten art project. "It can be used as a breast-feeding shield, blanket or changing pad. It makes a perfect stroller cover-up since the fabric contains UV protection with a 30 SPF," Taylor said. "It's also nontoxic, hypoallergenic and antimicrobial." That means no mildewing bibs in the diaper bag. The quick-drying fabric can be wiped or rinsed clean on the go and is machine-washable. Bibbitec is manufactured in South Florida from a patented design that is simple and streamlined. "The cut is really an art form," Taylor said. "We offer solid colors with a minimalist look. We want older kids to want to use them, too." Bibbitec can lighten the diaper bag load, as it folds into itself, forming a 2-by-6-inch rectangle, and can replace several items: bib, burp cloth, changing pad and blanket. Bigger kids can use it as an apron, art smock, place mat -- or a cape. Super bib indeed. Bibbitec bibs cost $36 and can be found online atwww.bibbitec.com and Mama's Organic Baby (www.mamasorganicbaby.com), as well as in local stores such as Baby Love in Tamarac, Nini and Loli in Fort Lauderdale, Twinkles in Coconut Grove and at the Fisher Island Market near Miami. |
