South Florida Parenting Spring Extravaganza March 8 & 9, 2008 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach Take your family back in time when you visit the Fourth Annual Spring Extravaganza at Yesteryear Village. This charming location features historic houses from Florida's past, including a firehouse, schoolhouse, chapel, general store, woodworking shop, barnyard and telephone company. On each street you will find activities, games, vendors, hands-on crafts and tours of the vintage buildings. Children will enjoy the simple pleasures of feeding the ducks, playing in the hay or visiting the farmyard animals and garden. Village volunteers will help kids spin a hoop, climb on the fire trucks and jump rope. Visitors who wear green, dress as a pirate or fairy, can visit St. Paddy's Place, the Fairy Garden or the Pirate's Cove and get a prize. An Easter Bonnet Contest will take place at 1:30 each day on the stage. Create a fabulous hat and win a spring basket! There's so much to do that you need to plan to spend most of the day at Yesteryear Village and the Spring Extravaganza! Parking at the South Florida Fairgrounds is free, and the new Southern Boulevard exit off the Turnpike makes getting to Yesteryear Village easy for families in South Florida. Don't miss the fun! Admission: $8 for children and adults. Little ones under 18 months are free. FREE PARKING! A few tips for event-goers: The majority of the activities will appeal to children ages eighteen months to twleve years of age. Older kids will be interested in searching for rainbow clues in the historic buildings such as the telephone company, veteran's house and old post office. They can also scale a rock wall, play "Twister", get their face painted, and try their skills at old-fashioned games, the Florida Marlin's Fast Pitch and the Sports Challenge. At the Pirate's Cove, kids can make pirate hats and get a prize if they dress as a pirate. Kids of all ages may get a photo with the Easter Bunny or the "stuff-a bear" activity. Addtional fees are charged for photos and to purchase stuffed animals. Toddlers will enjoy the toddler play area, the ducks and other animals, the giant play bricks, the mini Jeeps and more. Restrooms: new bathroom facilities have been built at Yesteryear Village. An area for diaper changing will be provided. An ATM is available on the porch of the Museum at Yesteryear Village. Credit cards: Credit cards will be accepted for ticket purchases the day of the event. Some vendors will accept credit cards when you are purchasing their products. Cash Only: Kids Fun Passes will be for sale at the event which will allow free access to the Extravaganza for your child twelve and under. Food vendors will provide hotdogs, burgers, sodas, ice cream, icees, popcorn and other treats. |
