My Gym breaks its classes conveniently into "parent participation" for children 3 months to 3 years and "independent" for children ages 3 to 9 years. In the classes, instructors focus on physical, mental and emotional growth. The classes are run in sessions and grow as children do, incorporating more tasks, fun and learning. Younger classes coach children to use movement in learning. They focus on crawling, walking and tumbling for the first time. Older children participate in gymnastics, leading many times to a childhood-long hobby. My Gym's weekly classes include sports and games, while the equipment changes weekly allowing for new play in every visit. The YMCAs at most locations offer a comprehensive menu of sports for children ages 4 and up. Youth sports include basketball, soccer, flag football and cheerleading and others year-round, depending on the branch. Most also offer sports-related summer camps. The Boca Raton branch is now featuring a new sports program teaching the basic-skill developments necessary to play for children as young as 3. The series has kid-sized basketballs and goals that crank down very low so even the tiniest dribblers can get in on the game to learn coordination. Since 1984, the school has grown with director Robert Strauss, who has been teaching in Miami since 1973. In 2002, he celebrated his "25,000 students-old" day, having taught 25,000 students to swim.
