Hey, it's really hot out right now. But you don't want to be stuck inside the house, right? So each Sunday, for the next five weeks, we'll highlight someplace that'll get your heart pumping -- while still enjoying air conditioning. Where: The FlowRider at Adrenalina, 501 S. Federal Highway, inside The Village at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach. What: A two-inch layer of water rushes 30 mph, continually circulating in a 20-by-60-foot, glass-enclosed compartment. The goal: catch the wave, ride it, control it — either standing up or lying down. Lose control, and the wave sweeps you away. Stay balanced, and glory is yours. The scene: Skateboarders can roll around the 12,000-square-foot Adrenalina store, zigzagging between rows of skateboards, swimsuits and surf equipment. The FlowRider provides alternative entertainment, as family members and outsiders watch surfers take on the tasty waves. Background: Zalman Lekach, an action-sports athlete in Pacific Beach, Calif., started a cable TV show called "Adrenalina" about eight years ago. Two Adrenalina stores — in Plano, Texas, and Hallandale Beach — have since opened. Zalman, 29, comes from a business family. His father opened the retail chain Perfumania. Testimonial: "It's like going to the beach, but more fun. You walk through the door and you feel like you get out of South Florida for a while," says Noah Fuhrman, 10, of Aventura, who was there celebrating his birthday party. Cost: $20 for 30 minutes. Birthday parties, for a group of 20, run $300-$400. Riders must be at least 5 years old and 42 inches tall. An adult must sign a waiver. Hours: Opens 10 a.m. daily and closes at 9 p.m. Sundays, 10 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, and 11 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays.
