Beloved Heritage Student Passes Away By Alex Clarke American Heritage
Marla Mann, 17, a junior at American Heritage in Plantation, was in an early morning car accident May 16. Driving her aunt and grandmother as well as her two brothers to a relative's graduation ceremony in New York, Marla lost control of the car and crashed. Her aunt and grandmother were instantly killed in the accident. Marla and her two brothers were transported to a nearby South Carolina hospital. Hearing of the news by Saturday night, friends of Marla were shocked and expressed hope that she would recover. However, news spread three days later that Marla had died from her injuries. American Heritage students, brought together by this tragedy, remember Marla as incredibly smart, witty, but especially as warm and kind. Highly active in the Patriot marching band, Marla was a model student, a friend to both her peers and her teachers. Her brothers, Danny and Ryan Mann, are expected to recover. A one-hour memorial service will be held June 1 in the Heritage theater. The band, chorus, and orchestra will pay tribute to Marla. |
