Each year in Broward and Palm Beach counties, high school student writers and drama students participate in Cappies, a national critics and awards program for high school theater.
Student critics attend participating high school performances and write reviews, which are published here. The critics compete for to be named this year’s top critic. They score points for the numbers of performances they attend and the number of times their reviews are published.

In a modern adaptation of the classic novel, turned movie, turned play, Pope John Paul II High School brought "Tom Jones" to life in creative style.
'Tom Jones' a post-modernist take on an 18th century novel
Take Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," add some "Comedy of Errors," and a touch of Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," and you have Pope John Paul II's contemporary theatrical version of "Tom Jones." Through a combination of these plays' respective styles, and the implementation of an epic theatre concept, the actors brought down the fourth wall in a way that created moments of hilarity and allowed the audience to recognize the comedic and farcical elements of Tom Jones' tale.
Pope performance blends 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Comedy of Errors'
Pope John Paul II's production of "Tom Jones" recalled the best elements of "Romeo and Juliet" and "A Comedy of Errors" in order to create a hybrid piece bursting with sword fights, James Bond references, gender-bending, and an eleventh-hour murder-trial-turned-marriage. The cast delivered heartfelt and comic performances that reminded all in attendance how fun farces can be.
