G-Force surprisingly delightful G-Force opens July 24 Rated: PG Abby Brennan St. Thomas Aquinas High School
I signed up for G-Force hoping to have fun trashing it. Unfortunately, this movie thwarted my evil plan by being good. The superb animation made the rodents occasionally photorealistic. The 3D, neither gimmicky nor "look-at-me-I'm-pointing-at-the-audience," blended seamlessly into the movie. G-Force wholeheartedly embraced the campy cliches of the spy genre, rejoicing in monologuing villains, science-defying gadgets and doomsday plots. The suspenseful opening sequence made me forget that I was watching guinea pigs. Despite Will Arnett( Arrested Development), Tracey Morgan (30 Rock) and Zach Galifianakis ( The Hangover), few real laugh-out-loud moments enliven the movie. The movie makes a few gestures at a muddled moral - something about family or believing in yourself or not destroying the world with evil consumer appliances. However, it quickly returns to gleefully unrealistic action scenes. G-Force is a great movie for people looking to nurture their inner child, fans of campy spy movies and anyone stuck babysitting a five-year-old. |
