Before entering the theater, I thought I had this movie all figured out.
It was gonna be a romantic comedy, fully equipped with the initial hatred, then slow and gradual love development (filled with cute snuggly moments and flirtation), then the dance, and finally the seal-the-deal, woman looks beautiful, guy realizes he’s totally head over heels “dress scene.”
Despite my predispositions, I decided to head into the theater solely based on my love for Sandra Bullock and my absolute infatuation with Ryan Reynolds.
Without a doubt, Ryan Reynolds completely stole the show. He was absolutely HILARIOUS!
Who knew his purpose stretched beyond taking his shirt off? (Which he did, and I’m not complaining!)
Certainly not a chick flick, The Proposal was much more of a comedy than a romance.
Another thing atypical of the movie was its setting. It starts off in New York, quite ordinary for the whole “glorified love” movie theme, but then takes a drastic shift to Alaska.
Really, who lives in Alaska (besides Sarah Palin)?
It was incredibly beautiful, and I thought it was a cool stylistic move to set this seemingly ordinary romantic comedy in such an unexpected place.
Overall, The Proposal was incredibly funny. Trust me, you’re gonna leave the theater thinking about and rehashing jokes from it for days to come.
Even some cheesy, seemingly unnecessary humor scenes make sense at the end.
I’d give it a 10 out of 10, no doubt. One more thing: Don't leave before the credits, or you'll miss out.
