Moving Up

High school is four years of endless studying, countless drama, commitment after commitment, long-lasting friendships, short-lasting relationships, infamous tests, quizzes and essays and, of course, discovering all of the hidden talents that have been waiting to emerge all your life.

Getting through it every day is tough.

These tips should help you through some of the hardest, but most rewarding, years of your life.

Prevent a slip-up

• Do not put questionable remarks and photos of yourself on social network sites like MySpace, FaceBook and Twitter. • Proofread your work before you turn it in. Common grammar and spelling mistakes can take your A paper down to F. • Do not use an e-mail address that is in bad taste or vulgar. Create a "professional" e-mail address for college and job applications. Offensive e-mail addresses make a bad impression. • Instead of joining an array of clubs, extensively participate in one or two activities. College admissions officers are not looking to see how many activities you sign up for. • Do not wait until your senior year to take the ACT or SAT. Tests should be taken in your junior year or early in your senior year.
