South Plantation Students Win Big in Solar Car Race

The South Plantation High Solar Knights, a student engineering team of 13, recently won first place in the National Dell Winston Solar Car Challenge.

The team's creation, a solar car named The Solar Knight II, lasted all four days of the race at the Texas Motor Speedway. It completed 395 laps, averaging 26 miles per hour.

The team won the Hunt Oil Award for best engineering in the race, and five individual awards. In addition, Bryan Delgado received the "Order of the Solar Cell" Award for his commitment to solar car racing.
