American Heritage: Urinetown

Anastasia Okonski – Urinetown
Cartoon music fills the air as the curtain goes up to reveal a procession of classic Broadway characters. Legs cross, and pennies are scrounged for as American Heritage Center for the Art's production of Urinetown begins.

Samantha Sehter – Urinetown
Little by little, recognizable Broadway characters sauntered onto the stage. Classic favorites like Annie, Mary Poppins and Sweeney Todd graced the stage with their distinct personas and introduced American Heritage's unique production of Urinetown.

Kayla Mason – Urinetown
The three-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical Urinetown takes place in a time of a terrible drought, which leads The Urine Good Company to force people to "pay for the privilege to pee." After Bobby Strong's father is arrested for illegally relieving himself, it is too much for Bobby and he rebels with the poorest residents of the town to take back their freedom and let people pee for free!

Jessica Kent – Urinetown
The struggle for freedom, the power of tyranny and capitalism and of Course, paying to pee, were all themes in American Heritage's production of Urinetown. With book and lyrics by Greg Kotis and music and lyrics by Mark Hollman, this musical spoofing other musicals, although a clear comedy, accurately depicts the risks one will take for freedom.

Caroline Sileo – Urinetown
Bureaucracy, politics…and urinals? American Heritage Center for the Arts' recent production of Urinetown illustrated one of Broadway's parodies in an innovative premise: matching each of its players with a clichéd character, in a sense, a "Toon Town" of musical theatre.
