Pine Crest basketball star Brandon Knight can breathe a sigh of relief.

Knight was wearing a walking boot on his right foot upon his arrival in Hollywood, Calif., on Tuesday for today's Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year Awards. He is one of six nominees for the most prestigious honor in high school sports.

Knight suffered a foot injury Sunday playing for Orlando-based Team Stat at this week's Nike Peach Jam Tournament in North Augusta, S.C.

"He went to the paint and just stepped wrong. He went to a hospital up here and they said he broke a small bone in his [right] foot," said Therion Joseph, coach of Team Stat.

Knight said he wasn't sure of the extent of the injury.

The 6-foot-3 guard said he will have his foot examined by his doctor when he returns home Friday.

Knight averaged 31.8 points per game as a junior in leading Pine Crest to a repeat Class 3A state title. He was named Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball for the state and the Gatorade national Player of the Year and is one of the nation's most coveted prospects. Knight already holds several school records, including points in a game (55), season (968) and career (2,589). He is the No. 3-ranked recruit by ESPNU 100 and No. 2 by Rivals.com.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Knight could rejoin Team Stat for the 17s nationals, July 26-Aug. 1 but said he might take the rest of the summer off to rest his foot.
