Parkland --
The Douglas girls' volleyball team won its eighth consecutive district championship, turning back rival Coral Springs with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-19 victory. "The last time we played them, we went four games with them and made some ball-handling errors," Douglas senior Kendall Putnam said. "I think maybe they thought they'd have us this time, but we actually played much better in this match." With the district championship, the Eagles advance to host a regional quarterfinal match on Wednesday; Coral Springs, the district runner-up, will travel for its quarterfinal match. The Eagles (16-6) and Colts (13-9) played evenly in the early going. Stephanie Smith lifted the Eagles to a 20-11 lead in the first game with five service points. Douglas' dominant serving led the Eagles in the second game, as Putnam, Brittany Sauls and Victoria Bender all contributed four-point serving runs. Coral Springs took the lead in the third game behind senior Taylor Ruiz but the Eagles' blocking, behind Putnam turned the Colts back. VolleyballDistrict 11-6AHolly. Hills d.
