It took only the first week of the high school football season for a team to forfeit a hard earned victory.

Though the Douglas 42-25 victory over Monarch on Thursday looked impressive, it's now wiped from the books.

Douglas informed Monarch on Friday it had two ineligible players on the roster, one of which played, and they would forfeit the game based on Florida High School Athletic Association Bylaw 10.2.1.2.

It was the second time Douglas has forfeited at least one game due to ineligible players. The school had to forfeit two games in 2006.

The two ineligible players had participated at Coral Springs Charter football practice during the official start for practice on Aug. 10 according to a letter sent to the FHSAA from Douglas Principal Ann Anderson-Kowalski.

In the letter it stated the school had no knowledge the two athletes had practiced with another school prior to coming to Douglas.

Douglas hosts Coral Glades on Friday, while Monarch plays Piper at Lockhart Stadium on Saturday.
