Palm Beach high school results and schedules By Gary Curreri Special Correspondent Posted October 28 2009
Boca Raton --
Wellington started off slow, but finished strong as it defeated Lake Worth 26-24, 25-7, 25-12 in a District 15-5A girls' volleyball match at Spanish River High on Tuesday night. Sophomore Gabby Sehres had 11 service points for Wellington (19-4), which advances to play West Boca in one of the semifinals at 5 p.m. today. Dwyer (9-17) defeated John I. Leonard in the other match Tuesday, 25-17, 25-6, 25-4 and will play top-seeded Spanish River (18-7) at 7 p.m. Lake Worth senior Fabiola Cosmeus kept the Trojans (6-15) in the match in the first game with five service points. She finished with 9 digs and 5 kills. Britney Velazquez added six assists and six service points in a losing effort. "If we could have won that first game, I think the whole complexion changes," Lake Worth coach Rich Duhon said. "I am very proud of them. They came out to play from the start. I think that loss in the first game took the wind out of our sails." Wellington's Alex Lynn served out the second game with nine consecutive serves, while Sehres had six service points in the first game and four in the second. Wellington coach Steve Swan was disappointed with the performance of his team despite the victory. "They didn't come ready to play," Swan said. "They have to step it up."
