With the stress of college competition, it is hard for students not to become trapped by bad habits. "Take a break and enjoy being the youth that we are." By Pearl Leon Nova High Posted April 17 2008
High school is considered a training time for college. The information we learn now is supposed to help us in the future. However, we can't always just be about staying focused. We need to learn how to relax before we begin even more intense work. Even though high school is supposed to prepare us for college, we should be able to take a break and enjoy being the youth that we are. It is very important for high schoolers to take school seriously because colleges look at our performances, but the expectation of doing everything is blown out of proportion and can be quite stressful. South Broward senior Tim Dalecky said, "If students worked constantly, they would be overly stressed. Giving them a break helps replenish their ability to work more, later." Having breaks is part of who we are. As a junior, I've taken this year seriously, but I also have learned not to be so intense about my classes. I work hard, but sometimes I like to slack off in some of my classes. I do this because of how hard I've worked and how much of a break I need. Why should we always have to stay focused? Many who don't always stay on point can still pass classes without worrying or sweating. College competition has given us the stress ball of having to do and keep up with everything in high school. With such stress, it is hard for students not to become trapped by bad habits. But taking a break doesn't mean you are weak. It actually shows confidence in yourself, that you don't have to worry so much about what happens in high school. High school is just for learning. I should be able to take a break from school, through things like drawing, reading or eating. As long as slacking doesn't affect your graduation, taking a breather can be a good thing. So give us a break. |
