Cheetah Girls new album sure to please 'tween' crowd By Elizabeth Whitton Coral Springs Charter Important: This article was last updated on January 17, 2008. Please call ahead to confirm hours, prices, dates and other information.
The Cheetah Girls have a new CD, yes! Tweens everywhere are jumping for joy over TCG, a horrible mix of half-attempted vocals and obnoxious beats that crunch into an 11-song soundtrack to any cool kid's life. The album plants its feet on the edge of potential and crap, with a bit more weight in the crap. Though it screams "Girl power!" and chants "You can do it!" it also whispers "you need to obsess over hunks to feel good." The vocals are whined with a pinch of boredom and laid over beats mixed by the cheap DJ that played at your sweet 16. The lyrics go as deep as the shallow end of a pool and obsess over the girls' fame and fashion. The Cheetah Girls have managed to spit out a mildly catchy song or two, but the songs get painful when they're buzzing in your head. Most of the tracks have huge potential that is squashed by obsessive digitization, leaving you with an album full of nauseating computer composing. Still, The Cheetah Girls tried, and they were successful in producing an album that'll be sure to please anybody under the age of 10, but leave anybody past puberty demanding their allowance back. |
