Headlines summarize and draw in the reader. These activities allow your students to analyze and try writing their own. Week 28: Headline Hints Cut out several headlines from Teenlink. Have students select one, and working with a partner, predict what the content or purpose of the article is about. They should write down their predictions. Then have them read the full article to see how close they were. LA.A.1.4 – The student uses the reading process effectively. LA.A.2.4 – The student constructs meaning from a wide range of texts. LA.B.2.4 – The student writes to communicate ideas and information effectively. Week 29: More Headlines Cut out several articles from Teenlink. Give them to your students without the headlines. Ask them to read the article and write an appropriate headline. Then have them compare their headline with the actual one. LA.A.1.4 – The student uses the reading process effectively.
