The Gators delivered the later punches, but Georgia won the 23-20 dogfight.
After trailing by as much as 20-0 in the first half, the Gators mounted a comeback on two big defensive plays from Leon Orr and Loucheiz Purifoy and two scoring plays from quarterback Tyler Murphy in the second half to trail 23-20 in the fourth quarter.
Tampa native Aaron Murray kept Georgia in contention when he was able to stretch the team's final drive in the last eight minutes of the game despite going scoreless in the second half. Florida's Darious Cummings was called for a personal foul and resulting in a first down for the Bulldogs. Georgia took a knee and held on for the victory.
Murray completed 16 of 25 passes for 258 yards and one touchdown. The Bulldogs collected 414 yards of total offense to the Gators' 319. Gators quarterback Tyler Murphy completed 13 of 29 passes for 174 yards with no touchdown passes. Murphy collected one of the Gators' two rushing touchdowns.
Georgia jumped out to an early lead paced by sophomore Todd Gurley, who scored two touchdowns. Gurley, however, gave the Bulldogs got an early scare when he appeared to injure his left ankle and exited the field. He returned to the sideline with 10:06 left in the second quarter.
The Gators scored on back-to-back plays to narrow their deficit to Georgia 23-20 in the fourth quarter. Tyler Murphy rushed for 14 yards to score Florida's second touchdown and successfully converted the two-point conversion to Clay Burton. This marked 17 unanswered points for the Gators' advantage, including a safety courtesy of defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy. Purifoy sacked Murray for a loss of 3 yards and helped the Gators score a safety to trail 23-12 heading into the fourth quarter.
A big Georgia turnover led to the Gators first touchdown to trail 23-10 in the third quarter.
Georgia fumbled the ball on the previous drive and it was recovered by Orr who ran the ball for 10 yards after picking it up at the Georgia 24-yard line.
The Gators' Mack Brown scored on a 5-yard rushing touchdown to cap a 14-yard drive on two plays.Georgia dominated the Gators in the first quarter with 259 yards of offense. Florida tallied just 115 yards in the first quarter, much of that from the 83-yard reception from receiver Quinton Dunbar.
The Gators fell to (4-4, 3-3 SEC) and the Bulldogs improved to (5-3, 4-2 SEC).
