FSU WR Kelvin Benjamin discusses his first of three TD catches against Florida.

Florida State is the No. 1 team in the nation.

The Seminoles climbed atop the latest BCS standings with a BCS average of .995. Ohio State is at No. 2 at .950.

FSU, benefiting from previous No. 1 Alabama’s last-second loss to rival Auburn on Saturday, also took the top spot in the AP top 25 poll and the USA Today coaches’ poll released Sunday. The Seminoles received 58 of the 60 first-place votes (Auburn received the other two) for the AP poll, which does not factor into the BCS standings.

This is the first time FSU has been ranked No. 1 nationally since Oct. 1, 2000.

What was going on the last time the Seminoles could be called the best team in the country?

-- Madonna’s "Music" was the No.1 song on the Billboard Hot 100. FSU would stumble to Miami and fall to No. 7 before Christina Aguilera’s “Come On Over Baby” became No. 1 in November.

-- Football flick “Remember the Titans” was the top-grossing movie. Sure, FSU players have been seen playing hangman during a game, but could you picture them doing this?

-- Gas cost an average of $1.52 per gallon.

-- Quarterback Chris Weinke was in the midst of his Heisman-winning season. Jameis Winston is a favorite to win it this year and would be the first FSU player to earn the award since Weinke. Winston broke Weinke’s school record for touchdowns in a season (33) during the weekend and is now up to 35.
