Roll over, FAT Village Art Walk: Our drooling, shaggy companions are the stars of Saturday’s Bark Walk in Fort Lauderdale.
An art walk programmed by the dog lovers behind the Girls’ Club Collection art gallery, the Bark Walk will stretch a full city block from 5 to 8 p.m. May 26, along Northeast Second Avenue south of Flagler Drive. Inside Girls’ Club is a new canine-focused group art exhibit, “Best in Show,” billed as a celebration of how hopelessly devoted we are to our pups. The gallery, which will donate its artist entry fees to the nonprofit Pets Broward, will host a glamour photo shoot for dogs ($5) with local photographer Alissa Alfonso.
Other diversions along the Bark Walk include an Adoptable Dog Parade from Pets Broward; a dog-friendly inflatable pool at beachwear shop Montce Swim (731 NE Second Ave.); a “dog versus human” athletic competition at the Fit Shop (723 NE Second Ave.); and a pastel hair-dyeing activity for pets at Form Hair Studio (727 NE Second Ave.). A handful of “Best in Show” artworks will also be on display at nearby Madeline Denaro Studio (713 NE Third Ave.).
Revelers without four-legged friends may find kinship at the nearby MASS District and FAT Village art walks, which will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. May 26. Free Sun Trolley shuttles will loop through the Flagler Village neighborhoods. One highlight is a 6-10 p.m. artist reception for “Hot and Sticky: The Sultry State” at the Projects Contemporary Art Space (523 NW First Ave.), an exhibit focusing on Florida’s raw beauty.
