2018 Carbonell Award winners announced

The basketball drama “Kings of Harlem” and the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sunday in the Park With George” scored top honors during Monday night’s Carbonell Awards, better known as South Florida’s “theater prom,” at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Actors, singers and other local theater luminaries marked the 42nd annual celebration of theater. Miami-Dade theaters hauled in the most trophies, with Zoetic Stage and M Ensemble winning 11 of the Carbonell’s 20 awards. Four Broward theaters — Broward Stage Door Theatre, Island City Stage, Slow Burn Theatre Company and Thinking Cap Theatre — won five awards, while Palm Beach theaters Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks and the Wick Theatre picked up four prizes.
