FASHION PORN: Diversity Honors

PHOTO GALLERY - #Gay themed #fundraiser at Hard Rock

The first ever "Diversity Honors" raised more than $50,000 and brought 350 guests to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

The event honored national and SoFlo leaders who have impacted the quality of life for the LGBT community with performances from cabaret artist Joey Arias and human circus Cirque Dreams.

The money raised will be split between The Pride Center at Equality Park and the Harvey Milk Foundation, the co-presenters of the gala.

Emceed by WSVN-TV’s Craig Stevens, the event paid tribute to Judy and Dennis Shepard, LGBT civil rights activists and co-founders of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. The parent of the slain Matthew Shepard received the Harvey Milk Honors Medal award from Stuart Milk, nephew of the late civil rights icon, Harvey Milk.

Diversity Honors also recognized South Florida leaders whose activism has improved the quality of life for the LGBT community, including:

1. international recording artist Deborah Cox

2. president and founder of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council Rand Hoch

3. nationally recognized teen activist and honorary co-founder of the Transkids Purple Rainbow Foundation Jazz Jennings

4. female impersonator Elaine Lancaster (James Davis)

5. c.e.o. of Planned Parenthood of South Florida Lillian Tamayo

6. 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida Miami Judge William Thomas

7. Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Dean Trantalis.

Two unannounced lifetime achievement awards were presented to columnist and publisher Norm Kent and cabaret artist Joey Arias.

With 350 guests, the event included a cocktail reception, entertainment by Joey Arias as well as a performance by Cirque Dreams and the national anthem sung by Casandra Ortiz.
