The pint-size comic, known as the "Festival Flea Market girl" for her commercial work, chatted via phone about her upcoming projects and unorthodox sleeping habits.
What's new with you?
I just finished filming a new episode of [the web sitcom] "Labor Days" this past weekend, and I'm producing a charity standup show with my "Labor Days" co-stars John Wynn and Forrest Shaw. The show takes place Nov. 7 at the Miami Improv, and all the proceeds will benefit the Miami-Dade Animal Shelter. The idea came about because we all have rescued pets. I'm also going to be featured on an upcoming Nick Jr. standup comedy show on Nickelodeon.
What's your standup about?
I make fun of myself a lot. Like, the fact that I'm sleeping in a bunk bed in a room with my daughter. It's cool when you're 10 but not so much now.
You really sleep in a bunk bed?
Yeah, I had an apartment, but it became too expensive, and I gave it up because I wanted to do comedy full-time. So I'm homeless right now. Actually, I live with my parents in Fort Lauderdale to save money. My plan is to move to Los Angeles or New York, because as a comedian, that's where the work is.
You seem really confident.
It’s funny, I have big dreams for being this tiny, little Italian girl. You know, there’s no exact way or path to become a successful standup comic. It’s all trial and error. Sometimes, you’re really broke, and every day is an adventure. But I’m happy, and you can’t put a price on happy.
